Dr. Born has been performing micro fat transfer surgery for the face and body the longest in Canada, since 1998. Fat transfer, also known as micro fat grafting, can be used to contour, shape and plump depressed or deflated areas on the face and body. Dr. Born has perfected this technique and can perform this procedure alone or in conjunction with other procedures including face lift and eyelid surgery, breast augmentation and Brazilian Butt lift. Micro fat transfer can also be used to fill hollows around the eyes, temples, cheeks and to contour the jawline.

Fat transfer surgery can be performed under local or general anaesthetic depending on the patient and the areas which are to be treated. During the procedure, fat is taken from a donor site using a liposuction cannula (a thin, tube like syringe). Fat will be harvested from an area where there is an excess such as the abdomen, thighs or buttocks. The donor fat is then prepared for re-injection into the recipient site. Dr. Born carefully injects the area to achieve the most natural looking result.

With microfat injection, the surgical result is more predictable and lasts longer than injectables that are comprised of synthetic material. After the procedure, there will be swelling and bruising around the donor and injection sites. Bruising should subside after 1-3 weeks and can usually be covered with makeup 3 to 5 days after the surgery. Swelling will resolve over the course of a few weeks. Patients can resume their normal activities within a couple of days after the surgery. In cases where fat grafting is performed in conjunction with other surgeries, recovery may take longer.
