Botox & Fillers Q & A

How do Botox and fillers work?

You don’t have to resort to surgery to achieve a more youthful look. Botox and fillers create a more youthful complexion by reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and filling in lost volume.

Botox and its competitor, Xeomin®, are derived from purified toxins. When injected into areas like the crow’s feet around your eyes and the frown lines between your brows, they inhibit muscle activity. Wrinkles and lines that appear when you smile or squint soften to give you a more youthful, welcoming appearance.

Dermal fillers plump your skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The innovative formulas can also fill in areas of lost volume, like your cheeks and lips, to give you a younger profile.

Combine any of these injectables to fight aging from many fronts and delay invasive surgery.

What cosmetic concerns can Botox and fillers address?

Botox and dermal fillers are minimally invasive cosmetic procedures that have a transformative impact on your appearance. All injections are performed in the office and require little or no downtime.

Dr. Born may recommend them to:

  • Smooth lines and wrinkles around your eyes, between your eyebrows, and across your forehead
  • Restore lost volume in the cheeks, temples, chin, and lips
  • Erase deep creases and folds
  • Reduce the appearance of smoker’s lines, marionette lines, and smile lines

As an expert injector who has published several papers on cosmetic injectables and advanced injection methods, Dr. Born has the skill and experience to recommend just the right combination of Botox and fillers to get you superior results.

What dermal fillers are offered?

TMB Cosmetic Surgery offers a wide variety of the most sought-after dermal fillers to enhance your look. Each works in a slightly different way:

Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, a compound naturally produced by your body to add hydration and suppleness to the skin. You have a lot of hyaluronic acid in your youth, but as you age, your production declines, leaving you with wrinkles, thinner skin, and hollowed contours.

Restylane restores hyaluronic acid to treated areas to give you back youthful skin volume.

Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite, synthetic microspheres of a natural compound found in your bones and teeth. When injected, the microspheres create a structure that resembles your natural connective tissue.

Over time, collagen forms around these microspheres, which are eventually absorbed by your system, leaving natural volume in areas like your cheeks and chin.

Juvederm also uses hyaluronic acid for its wide variety of formulas. Each formula has a different goal, like boosting lip or cheek volume, or reducing wrinkles.

Sculptra Aesthetic is a unique filler made up of particles of polylactic acid (PLLA) suspended in water. The formula adds volume to your skin to fill in lines, wrinkles, and hollowed areas.

Sculptra also stimulates the production of collagen to naturally boost your tissue strength and firmness. Sculptra effectively improves the look of the face and the body in areas like the buttocks and décolleté.
